Salabieh — a type of Middle Eastern fritter — are small yeast-dough balls that taste best when freshly fried.
They are very easy to prepare, yet they make a big impression and are equally loved by both kids and adults. We like to serve them with jam or applesauce. They are often soaked in sweet syrup after cooking, but we prefer them plain.
Ingredients:
- 600 g flour, sifted
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1.5 tsp dry yeast
- approx. 550 ml lukewarm water
Mix all ingredients in a bowl into a sticky dough, cover it and let it rest for 40 minutes.
For frying, heat about 3mm of oil in a pan. With oiled hands, place small pieces of dough in the oil and fry until golden brown.
As mentioned, we love serving them with jam — on top or like a sandwich. It’s the perfect dessert, especially when it’s cold and dark outside!
